Wildlife in Wet Habitats: Living Exhibits for Biblical Creation Apologetics

Overview
The major types of wet habitats of the world are reviewed from a biblical creation perspective by highlighting wildlife (animals, for the most part) that customarily live in those wet habitats, with special attention to examples in Scripture of animals that live in wetlands or water bodies (e.g., animals mentioned in Genesis 1:21; Exodus 7:19; Leviticus 11:9-10; Deuteronomy 8:7; 1st Samuel 17:40; 1st Kings 17:3-6; Job 8:11 & 12:8 & 39:27-29 & 40:21; Ecclesiastes 1:7 & 2:6; Psalms 1:3 & 107:23-31; Isaiah 19:6-7 & 35:6-7 & 41:18 & 43:20 & 55:10; Ezekiel 31:3-9 & 47:10; Jonah 1:17; etc.). Wetlands (such as swamps, marshes, and bogs) are analyzed as homes of various animals, as well as saltwater bodies (like oceans and seas) and freshwater bodies (like lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and wadis), from a biblical creation perspective. Each such wet habitat has its own resident or migratory animal community. Representative animals of these wet habitats will be reviewed (1) to recognize how these diverse creatures (e.g., fish, reptiles, birds, mammals, insects, crustaceans, etc.) glorify God as the great Creator He is; and (2) to appreciate how these diverse creatures are living exhibits providing powerful proofs that corroborate biblical text data and creation apologetics.
Learning Objectives:
- To appreciate God’s glory as it is displayed by wildlife living in wet habitats.
- To use specific examples of Biblical (and some extra-biblical) observations relevant to what is today called biome ecology and/or zoölogy, as we appreciate where animals live, and how and why they do so;
- To analyze some of the Biblical words used to describe wet habitats and the animals who live there;
- To illustrate how to blend teaching biblical truth with the study of biome ecology and biology, especially the ecology of various wetlands, saltwater bodies, and both lotic and lentic freshwater bodies; and
- To appreciate Biblical principles of creation stewardship, including conservation of wildlife.
Cost
$30.00 if attended for CEU credit (6 hours of instruction for 1.0 CEU). Please check in for each session in order to receive your certificate.

Rains, Rivers, & Revivals, Illustrating Isaiah 55:10-11
(ICR-SOBA's Back to Genesis lecture series #ACSI-2025-50003)

Overview
God diversely displays His glorious genius and caring providence in how He has given us His holy Scriptures and in how He providentially and caringly sustains His world of creation, providing habitats for humans and animals to live in, equipped with plant-life and geophysical environments fitted for humans and animals to fill (in accordance with His Genesis Mandate).
The Holy Bible’s transmission to the world, according to God’s general and specific objectives, is compared to the global water cycle in Isaiah 55:10-11. Thus, a comparison can be made of how Earth’s hydrologic cycle provides circulating waters--both freshwater and saltwater, within a dynamic cycle of water conditions, freshwater courses, frozen waters, etc.—with how God’s Word is transmitted to affect His purposes all over the earth, in multi-generational contexts (including unexpected revivals that produce extraordinary Scripture-sharing impacts. Yet, there are some details of precision/connotation “gems” (illustrated by rains and rivers, as well as in historic revivals) somewhat “hidden in plain view.” Special attention is to given to Genesis-based creation science and apologetics insights (until time runs out!), linked to Biblical creation stewardship aspects of both the Genesis Mandate and Great Commission.
As time permits, specific details of Scripture-mentioned wildlife will show God’s careful and caring provision of biogeographical resources needed for God’s creatures to survive and thrive, in that part of this fallen world. Also, doxological details are noted regarding creatures of wet habitats, each of whom exhibit the Lord Jesus Christ’s glory as the infinitely clever and caring and mighty Creator (and brilliant Bioengineer) that He is. With insights from relevant Scriptures, this course sometimes looks at wonderfully designed anatomies, physiologies, and behaviors of these very different animals as they each display God’s careful wisdom and providential care.
In the Providential history portion of this program, review of Bible passages and big-picture history examples will illustrate the importance of the Genesis Mandate (Genesis 9:1-7) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).

Exploring Creation Highlights in Providential History
(ICR-SOBA's Back to Genesis lecture series)
- Dates: TBA
- Time: 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
- Location: Institute for Creation Research, 1806 Royal Lane, Dallas, TX 75229 (Classroom A)
- Credit: Attending both sessions = 1.0 ACSI-approved CEU (Bible or Educational/Professional)
- Instructor: Dr. James J.S. Johnson (ICR-SOBA, ACSI-credentialed CEU provider 2153)
Overview
This course blends Bible exposition, creation science, and Providential history and explores various examples of how God diversely and gloriously works in Providential history, including events in Biblical history and church history (e.g., A.D1500s & A.D.1600s), as God sovereignly rules and providentially interacts with peoples in various lands (Acts 17:26; Isaiah 55:10-11), including displays of His careful and caring provision of natural forces (e.g., lightning, gale-force winds, fog, etc.) in providential ways, in support of God’s Genesis Mandate (Genesis 9:1-7) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). In the Providential history part of this program examples of God’s providence will be reviewed, especially historic persons and events contributing to the preservation and transmission of the Holy Bible, including gits translation and distribution, to the “uttermost parts of the earth,” with several illustrations from the AD1500s and AD1600s. In the creation highlights part of this program includes information about how lightning, thunder, and stormy winds are vital to Earth’s weather systems, as well as information about how animals (such as lions, geese, swans, doves, etc.). These topical studies are presented with the intent of blending the authoritative information given in Scripture with the corroborative facts learned via relevant science. Genesis-based creation science and apologetics insights are analyzed (until time runs out!), linked to Biblical creation stewardship aspects of both the Genesis Mandate and Great Commission.
The main presenter of this course is ICR’s Dr. James J. S. Johnson, whose relevant credentials include doctoral degrees in Bible and theology (ThD, DMin), plus NST certifications in geopolitical history (CNHG), international studies/geography (CNIA), and wildlife ecology (CNWE), ecology-related credentials in limnology (CWQM) and geography (MSGeog), post-doc certifications in forensic sciences (CIHE, CPEE), and specialized service (historian, Scottish Society of Dallas; historian-naturalist for 3 international cruise lines; Bicentennial Protestant Chaplain for the Nation’s Capital area, Boys Scouts of America; Rekefest Lecturer, Norwegian Society of Texas; scholar awardee, American Bible Society Award for excellence in Biblical studies and Biblical languages), etc.
Cost
$30.00 if attended for CEU credit (6 hours of instruction for 1.0 CEU). Please check in for each session in order to receive your certificate.
